FRONT COVER SCANS
1950 to Current
Welcome to a bit of Nostalga, over the past year I have managed to Scan every front cover of the Monthly Model Boats magazine this also includes the magazine back to the very first issue in 1950 when it was then called " Model Maker ", a copy of which can be seen below.
The scans do not cover the contents of the magazine , for this I would recommend a site called " magazineexchange.co.uk " where a search facility is available and on a majority of the magazines a complete index is shown .

Model Maker & Model Boats

The first issue of Model Maker was printed in December 1950
December 1950 to issue 23 October 1952
Known as
..Model Maker Incorporating The Model Mechanic & Model Cars
November 1952 issue 24 to January 1961 issue 121
Known as
.. Model Maker
February 1961 Issue 122 to March 1964 Issue 159
Known as Model Maker & Model Cars
April 1964 issue 160 to June 1964 issue 162
Again just Model Maker
July 1964 Issue 163 to August 1965 issue 176
Known as
Model Maker & Model Boats .. at this stage Model Maker was the more prominent
name.
September 1965 issue 177 to March 1966 issue 183
Model maker & Model Boats.. For this period the Model Maker name became heavily reduced with
Model Boats now becoming the more prominent displayed name.
April 1966 issue 184 to present day
The magazine name changes to just Model Boats
June 1994 It is noted that on the front Cover there are More Pages - More Colour and that it was now
incorporating the Best of " Radio Control Boat Modeller ".

Over the years there have been a couple of non prints, oddities and errors.
The July 1959 issue
. was Not printed due to a printers strike
The February & March 1974 issues were combined due to the 3 day week.( I think)
The February 1977 magazine is printed as issue 313, as is the March 1977, April is showing the
expected correct issue number of 315. This also happened again in 1994 where July was numbered
520 as was June but was back to normal in August.
For a few years in the 1997 rather than a specific month the magazines were issued with dates
E.g. 15th July to 10 August !! which resulted in 14 issues being printed that year
For the December 2013 issue , Unfortunately due to the printers there was a printing error the 2
page free plan only had Side one printed, a correct copy was made available but only to those who
requested it at the time.
In 2020 due to Covid 19, the June & July issue of Model Boats were not published. Publishing re-
started for the August issue 838 , although as June & July were not printed this should really have
been issue 836. Also August saw a new Editor " Lindsey Amrani " who took over from Martyn Chorlton.
This year there was no winter 13th Issue produced, also the December 2020 & January 2021 issues
were combined.

As of 2016 Back issues are no longer available direct from My Hobby Store, but are available from Mags UK
Back Issues - Where can you get them ?.
Naturally I would always recommend that you always try to get a back issue from the Magazine Publishers, however in this case Model Boats Magazine (MyHobbyStore) no longer supply back issues, this has been taken up My Mags and a link can be found at the bottom of this page. If you are not able to obtain one from them, I would suggest you try the Magazine Exchange who sell them, and also have 3rd party sellers, selling through them, failing that then there is always the various internet auction sites, E.g Ebay.
